Hope.17. Soon to be senior. Running is my life

socialjusticekoolaid:

Protesters from across St Louis turned up and turned out for the first St Louis County Council Meeting since Mike Brown’s Death. (Part IV)

And now for the side show… the STL County Council/police fail at being empathetic, and tone deaf white people are tone deaf (and white). #staywoke #farfromover

running-to-inspire:

There will come a point in every race, when you alone will need to decide. You will need to make a choice. How bad do you really want it?

So I was reading stories about runners who made insane comebacks, and I stumbled upon this woman right here, and just had to share.
This is Ana Quirot, a Cuban mid-distance runner. Her first inspiring trait (to me) is the fact that despite being only 5’3”, she ran a 1:58 or faster. But the best part of her story of course lays in her comeback.
In 1993, while doing laundry (due to a soap shortage she was forced to use isopropyl alcohol), there was an explosion, burning over 1/3 of her body severely. She was seven months pregnant at the time, and the baby did not survive. She wasn’t supposed to, either, but after two months of being Hospitalized, she returned to exercise biking. Although she had very little elasticity in her skin and couldn’t lift her hand over her head, she never gave up, and only 2 years later, she won first place in BOTH the 800 and 400 m races at the 1995 world championships. I feel like out of all the epic comeback stories out there, this definitely ranks in the top three.

"Elmo is with his good friend, Lupita. They are talking about all the great things about their skin. For example, Elmo’s skin just happens to be very ticklish. Lupita’s skin happens to be a beautiful brown color. Skin can come in all different shades and colors. Isn’t skin just the best? However, ticklish or smooth or black or brown or white or tan, be sure to love the skin you are in."

I love this. I LOVE THIS. I love this. Children need to see this. Adults need to see this.

Hey, White America, You Need To Hear What These Ferguson Kids Have To Say

In a new video from social justice-oriented T-shirt company FCKH8, several Ferguson children lampoon the excuses white people give to avoid getting involved in ending discrimination in America and deliver a call to action to stomp out racism.

Watch the full video and see these kids explain how racism is still a huge part of even getting an interview for a job.

FUCKING YES

I actually love this a lot
